As of today, Mamiya Press lenses in their native mounts are fully compatible with the Mercury system. In addition, Mamiya Press back adapters and backs can be incorporated in Mercury configs. This dual launch represents a long-sought goal for Mercury: to incorporate all Mamiya Press lenses and backs. Until Mercury, the Mamiya Press Universal was the closest thing the camera world had seen to a portable, universal medium format camera. Like Mercury, the Mamiya Universal Press incorporated its own helical focusing units and removable back adapters. Now all of these can be used with Mercury, in combination with any other Mercury components and compatible items.
The Mercury M-Press adapter acts as the lens stack for any Mercury config at RS0 or RS20. It accepts any Mamiya Press lens. (Note: While these lenses were already compatible with Mercury, the previous solution involved dismounting the lenses from their helical mounts and remounting them to Mercury shutter plates. This new option allows the entire Mamiya Press lens to mount natively.) The M-Press adapter can be configured for RS0 or RS20 film planes, allowing it to work with both medium format and large format Mercury configs. You can finally shoot your Press lenses on larger formats, including 4×5, 6×12, and Instax! The standard M-Press adapter comes with the RS0 spacing option. For RS20, you need the optional FS5 spacer.
The Mercury MUP Integrated Body acts like a Mamiya Universal Press on the back and a standard Mercury on the front. The back accepts the MUP M back adapter (to mount classic Press S-Curve roll film backs), the MUP G back adapter (to mount Graflok 23 backs), and the Mamiya Polaroid Back (to shoot 100 series peel-apart instant film). The Mercury MUP Integrated Body places the film plane at the Mercury RS0 standard, so your Mamiya Press back can be used with any lens compatible with the Mercury system! This allows you to use your beloved Press backs with a massive range of exotic lenses. It also enables the lightest and most compact Mercury config for 100 Packfilm.

I know what you’re thinking: If the MUP Integrated Body allows you to use any Mercury lens stack, and the M-Press Adapter allows Press lenses to mount to Mercury, then can’t I combine both of these items to create a Mamiya Universal Press? Why yes, you can:
This may be a little crazy, but if you want a complete replacement for a Mamiya Press camera that is infinitely more configurable, and also lighter, more compact, and cheaper, now you can do it! This configuration is less than 1/3 of the weight of the original MUP.
Both the M-Press Adapter and MUP Integrated Body are available now. Contact Mercury Works for current pricing.

How does one purchase the Mercury Press body?
We haven’t launched a webstore yet, but will in the future. Meanwhile, if there’s something you really want, contact us using the “Mail” icon on this site (on every page, lower right hand corner). We will do our best to put together an order for you.
I have a Mamiya 22 with 65mm lens and 2 s shaped knob wind backs. I would like to have a lighter rig for landscape photography. What would I need to buy from Mercury to achieve this and how much would it cost?
Thanks,
Chris McKie
We have a couple of options. Our MUP body can take any MUP back adapters + backs, and can be coupled with any of hundreds of lens possibilities (including Mamiya Press lenses). That would certainly be lighter and more compact than your 22. But if you just want to keep the lenses and use them with Graflok 23 backs, you’d have a much lighter and more compact camera. This is also our least expensive option. Contact us via the contact link floating on the right side of each webpage and we can put together a camera for you!
